Christmas Party Excess
November 2022 News
Party time is almost upon us and for the first time since Christmas 2019 you might be thinking about splashing out on something special for the festive parties already filling up your Christmas Calendar. After two years of restricted celebrations and cancelled parties’ complete decadence is the order of the day.
There’s a real opulent feel to this year’s offerings, which the romantics out there are going to truly love and embrace with every fibre of their being. From plush velvets, sequins and sparkles, embellishments, and feathers to subversively sexy corsetry, leather, and lingerie detail, it’s all out there on the high street waiting for you to embrace the freedom of that feel good Christmas spirit we haven’t been able to experience for some time.
Some of the styles still echo back to the oppressive days of lockdown when leisure wear and comfort gave us the reassurance, we were seeking in the dysfunctional world we found ourselves in. Head to toe dressing and matching suit sets follow this thread, there’s still a that feeling of softness and comfort in the structure of the suits, but they are elevated to new heights in lush, plush velvets and satins.
Soft suiting has become the real hero piece for this season and if you invested in relaxed suiting in the summer then fear not this season’s fashion threads of embellishing, feathers and corsetry pose an ideal opportunity to elevate your look for the party season. By adding feathers to the cuffs, sequins to the sleeves or lapels or simply going for a sparkly, corset style or lingerie style offering underneath you can take your suit to the next level. If you haven’t already and don’t want full on velvet, you can always invest in a velvet blazer or jacket and pair with some of your existing items.
Sparkly tops and t shirts abound and can be a reasonably inexpensive way to jazz up a pair of basic trousers, jeans, or a skirt lurking at the back of the wardrobe. Coated or faux leather leggings and high waisted jeans with front patch pockets continue to be popular this season. So why not pair your existing coated leggings with a sequin shirt or style your high waisted jeans with a more fitted sparkly top.
Alternatively, why not go full on sparkle, there are several two-piece offerings around with wide leg comfy palazzo style trousers and matching tops. Two pieces are always a great addition to the wardrobe because they are so versatile.
In addition to velvet and sparkles there is also an abundance of satin, you’ll find this in dresses, shirts tops and relaxed suiting. Short above the knee dresses in Satin’s and sequins, tunic style or twist front and longer midi length dresses in Satins. If you don’t want your legs on show you may be able to style a shorter dress with leggings.
For colour with silver, gold, and champagne everyone is covered, for Autumn’s there is a myriad of forest green in both sparkles and satin and of course as always, a lot of black. Red velvet is popular together with navy and some fabulously bright pinks for Winters and springs. Summer’s may have difficulty finding colour but there is always silver!
If full on sparkle shine and lush velvets are not your thing then remember you can tone down the look by just having these elements in your accessories, a velvet scarf, try some shoe jewellery, add a little bit of sparkle with a bag or your jewellery.
